Due to a severe injury received during the Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi match on June 12, Faf du Plessis' stint in the Pakistan Super League 2021 will be cut short. The former South African captain clashed with fellow teammate Mohammad Hasnain while attempting to save a boundary and suffered a concussion as a result. He was rushed to the hospital for scans after being ruled out of the game.

A day later, the 36-year-old came to Twitter to announce that the concussion had caused him to lose some memory. He did, however, express optimism about making a comeback shortly. According to the current events, the Proteas star will not play in PSL 2021 anymore and will return to South Africa on June 15.

For the uninitiated, du Plessis formerly played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which was postponed in the middle of the season on May 4. The South African dasher, who plays for Chennai Super Kings, was the competition's third-leading run-scorer at the time of his season suspension, with 320 runs in seven appearances.

After the commencement of PSL 2021 in the UAE, the Quetta Gladiators hoped that du Plessis would continue his spectacular run. However, after only one game, the star player suffered a concussion and will miss the rest of the season. During the match against Peshawar Zalmi, opener Saim Ayub was called his concussion substitute.

Meanwhile, the Quetta Gladiators haven't had a particularly successful PSL 2021 campaign. They are in the last place in the team standings with only two wins in eight games. Even though they are all but out of the playoff race, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side must win their final two games to have a chance.
